In the past, the village was a Turkish settlement known as the Odaites. Located on the important road for trade caravans from Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo to Svishtov and Ruse, there were several inns (hosts) in the village. Hence the name of the village, from the Turkish word odeya - room, hospice. Innkeeping flourished even after the Liberation. It is suspended after the opening of the railway line Ruse-Gorna Oryahovitsa. On the other side of the Yantra River in the areas of Mechi Dol and Gramatika there were Bulgarian settlements, and between them in the area now known as Tene Monastery there was a monastery or chapel. What happened to these settlements is not known, as they no longer existed during the Liberation and are now being studied only by treasure hunters. During the Liberation, most of the Turkish population left with the retreating Turkish troops, and after the signing of the peace treaty with Turkey, they returned and began to sell their property. From this period began the settlement of Bulgarians in the village. The first settlers were from the neighboring village of Polski Senovets, and then from the villages of Mihaltsi, Dichin, Resen, Sergyuvets (now part of the village of Parvomaytsi, G. Oryahovitsa municipality), Vishovgrad and several Balkan families. Compared to the neighboring villages, the village was considered poor. To overcome the need for land, forests have been uprooted on the east bank of the Yantra River. The main livelihoods of the population were agriculture and cattle breeding. More than half of the village's properties were located east of the Yantra River, which necessitated the construction of a stone bridge over the river in 1926-1928. In January 1943 the village was renamed Petko Karavelovo, in 1951 Sashevo, in 1992 again Petko Karavelovo. The traditional fair of the village is at the end of October(18th or 19th).
The village is located in the valley of the Yantra River, 8 km south of the municipal center Polski Trambesh and 30 km north of the regional center Veliko Tarnovo. The main road from Veliko Tarnovo to Ruse and the railway line from Gorna Oryahovitsa to Ruse pass through the village. North of 5 km. is the village of Radanovo, south of 3 km. is the village of Kutsina, east of 12 km. - the village of Strelets and to the west 5 km. - The village of Polski Senovets. To the north and south the terrain is flat, and to the east and west hilly.
